About the Artist:

LLAdam is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Victoria BC, on traditional territories of the Ləkwəŋən speaking peoples. She works in visual and performing arts, motion photography and the written word using place and memory to explore themes of transformation and the human condition.  She has studied various arts in Vancouver and Victoria BC, and Xi’an, Shanghai, and Kunming China.

Current Work:  A Hike on Huangshan

One never knows whether a seemingly bad situation is a catalyst for transformation. An illness forced me to drop my regular studies at UVic and take an elective for the semester. I took Chinese, which lead to a scholarship to study in China for one year. The opportunity would not have come my way without the initial setback. I view painting in a similar way. This series of paintings explores the natural and built environment around Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) and Hongcun Ancient Painters Village. The work attempts to convey the movement of time and place across the lived experience. I am working in acrylic on canvas, and Chinese inks applied like guache on heavy paper.
